Fair Housing
We believe everyone deserves a fair chance at a good home. Fifth Management & Consulting, Inc. is a family-owned, women-led company that has managed rental communities in Maryland and Virginia for more than twenty years. Fair housing is not just the law we follow — it is how we do business every day.
We do business in accordance with the Fair Housing Act
We do business in accordance with the federal Fair Housing Act. We do not discriminate against any person because of:
- Race
- Color
- Religion
- Sex
- National origin
- Familial status (families with children under 18)
- Disability
These are the seven classes protected by federal law. We also follow all state and local fair housing laws that apply to our communities, which protect more classes than federal law does.
Maryland fair housing protections
Our Maryland communities also follow the Maryland fair housing law. In addition to the federal classes above, Maryland law protects people from housing discrimination based on:
- Marital status
- Sexual orientation
- Gender identity
- Source of income — including a housing voucher, child support, alimony, veterans benefits, and any other lawful source of income
Reasonable accommodations and modifications
If you have a disability, you have the right to ask for a reasonable accommodation — a change in a rule, policy, or service — or a reasonable modification — a physical change to your home or the community — so that you can fully use and enjoy your home. There is no charge to ask, and asking will not count against your application.
To make a request, or if you need this information in another format, please contact the community office. See our Accessibility page for how the request process works.
How to file a fair housing complaint
If you believe you have been treated unfairly in housing, you can file a complaint. It is free, and it is against the law for anyone to retaliate against you for filing.
